Water Regulations & Permits

Specific Times to Water

Water conservation is a key tool in managing water shortages. The City of Fresno depends on water resulting from conservation as a part of the community’s water supply.

An outdoor watering schedule that is fair to all customers was developed so that everyone in the community can have enough water at a reliable pressure and at a reasonable rate. For instance if all sprinklers in the City came on during the same day and at the same time, water pressure would dramatically decrease to individual customers and increase energy costs because our pumps must work harder.

Specific watering times have also been implemented to minimize pumping during the high cost energy period that occurs during the day. For the safety of the entire community, maintaining sufficient water pressure in the pipelines is essential for fighting fires. Regulations are enforced by Conservation Representatives who monitor over watering in the community.

REPORTING WATER WASTE
Is your property being flooded by a neighbor? Have you observed over-watering? Call the Conservation Hotline! A representative will investigate, and you can remain anonymous.

We make every effort to respond soon after your call, but all calls are prioritized according to urgency, safety and staff availability. When a representative arrives at the location, if they do not observe flooding, they may send a courtesy letter to the customer with a reminder about watering rules. To make efficient use of limited field staff, please provide as much information as possible about the water waste.

Location: The exact address, along with major cross streets is best. If the address is unknown, provide as much location information as possible.

Date and Time: When was watering observed. It is easier to monitor for over-watering when approximate days and times waste usually occurs.

What was observed: What did you see - - Water flooding into gutter? Sprinkler ran over an hour? Watering from irrigation, an open hose, broken sprinkler?

Over-watering history: Provide any information about past over-watering you have noticed.
