How Sewer Rates are Calculated
Pretreatment surcharges are assessed to each classification to pay for the cost of wastewater treatment.
There are three main classifications for wastewater billing. These are
Sewer billing is done bi-monthly using various billing methods according to the different classifications. Residential customers are billed a flat rate according to the number of living units. Commercial and some light industrial customers are billed based on their flow (water usage or wastewater discharged), at a rate according to the estimated strength of their wastewater. Heavy industrial users, which generally do not have a well characterized wastewater stream, are billed based on bimonthly flow and loadings information obtained through regular sampling of their wastewater discharge.
