| Fresno’s proposed water rates under its upcoming residential metering program will be among the lowest in the nation, according a survey conducted by the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Results from the study show Fresno’s proposed water rates are below the median rates for other similar sized cities by as much as 52%. In addition, the survey shows that Fresno’s monthly wastewater/sewer charges are comparatively low, by as much as 72% below the median residential sewer rates and 67% below the median commercial and industrial sewer rates for other cities. >more |

| Today, the City of Fresno was notified by the California Department of Public Health that a request for funds to modernize water infrastructure in the Herndon Town community has been approved. The City has been awarded a grant for $825,000 for Herndon Town work, which will provide clean and safe drinking water for residents of the small Northwest Fresno community. Herndon Town, which was annexed into the City of Fresno in 1988, is served by a small, privately owned water company. >more |

| With the State of California entering its 3rd straight year of drought and water shortage, the City of Fresno has taken action to be good stewards of this precious resource. The City Council voted unanimously today to support a 20% voluntary reduction in water use. | With an average of 11,000 gallons of water wasted per household every year and 1 trillion gallons wasted from minor water leaks across the country, the City of Fresno joins the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) WaterSense Program by declaring March 16 – 20 as “Fix a Leak Week.”The national “Fix a Leak Week” campaign is an opportunity to encourage Fresno residents and businesses to improve water efficiency by checking for and fixing leaks. | The City of Fresno, Department of Public Utilities (DPU), Solid Waste Division was named as the Nation’s leader in recycling by the “Men’s Health Magazine” recycling survey. The survey which ranked 100 cities in the United States gave Fresno the #1 ranking for its Residential Recycling Program. The study, based on community participation also rated cities for reuse of recycled materials, convenience and quality of the program. >more |

| Today, the City of Fresno, Department of Public Utilities (DPU), Solid Waste Division announced a significant milestone in their ongoing recycling efforts. Fresno has ranked highest in the state among larger cities by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) for diverting 71% of their waste out of the landfill and into the City’s recycling programs.
