City Council to Receive Update on Planned Unit Development (PUD) Water Meter Plan
12/04/2009

FRESNO, CA – Friday, December 4, 2009 – The City Council will receive an update on the plan to convert Planned Unit Developments (PUD) to paying a metered rate for water before the 2013 deadline. The presentation which is scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday at City Hall was requested by the City Council and will take place during the December 10 Council Meeting. The presentation will be jointly presented by the Department of Public Utilities and the Department of Finance and will primarily address the approximately 29 PUDs in Fresno that will be converted to paying a metered rate as part of the master plan to meter the entire city. These individual PUDs represent approximately 1,725 households, or 1 ½ percent of the total meter project.

Multi-Family residential and commercial water customers have been paying a metered water rate for decades, and the meter project which was mandated by the State of California will bring the remainder of the City of Fresno water customers into compliance.

The presentation will focus on how and why the PUDs were established, the cost advantages of a PUD having a shared master meter, and information about the concept of individual meters for homes within a private development community. Residents who are unable to attend the Council meeting and are interested in receiving a copy of this presentation are invited to call Ann Kloose at (559) 621-8633 for information.
