Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer is proud to announce the success of the Traffic Unit at the California Law Enforcement Challenge (CLEC) Traffic Safety Conference.

The conference recognizes innovations in traffic safety in California and honors the individuals who have displayed  exceptional efforts in the field.

The Fresno Police Department Traffic Unit received the first place award after competing against law enforcement agencies with 501 to 1000 sworn officers from all over the state of California.

This is the sixth consecutive year that the Fresno Police Department has won first place in the State Challenge Level. The department won first place in 2006 in the National
Challenge Level, and received the Commissioner’s Overall Excellence in Traffic Safety Award in 2004.

Officers Jeremy Maffei and Robert Esquibel, both assigned to the Neighborhood Traffic Unit, received individual awards for their significant contributions to traffic safety within their community. Officer Maffei and Officer Esquibel were nominated by their supervisors based on their efforts in DUI enforcement through out the City of Fresno. In 2007, Officer Maffei made 163 DUI arrests and Officer Esquibel made 153 DUI arrests.
