HOMICIDE #3 UPDATE:   New details on victim released
02/19/2008
Police Chief Jerry Dyer would like to update the media on Homicide #3, which occurred last night.

On February 18, 2008, at approximately 8:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Primo Mini-Mart at 4692 E. Shields regarding a robbery and shooting victim. As officers arrived, they discovered two victims who had been shot; both were transported to CRMC for treatment.

According to witnesses, a male suspect wearing a motorcycle helmet entered the store and asked for change. The suspect then produced a firearm and shot the store clerk and the security guard. The suspect took money from the cash register and then left the store on a motorcycle in a westbound direction.

The store clerk, a 19-year-old Indian male, was pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity is not being released pending notification. The security guard, an unidentified 45-year-old Hispanic male, is listed in critical condition. The investigation revealed that the security guard was unarmed and did not work at the market; he was visiting the victim on his way to work.

This is the third murder of 2008; last year at this time, there were 7.
