PRESS RELEASE FROM CALIFORNIA POLICE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION:   Police Chiefs Elect Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer President
03/06/2008
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer was installed president of the California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA) for 2008/2009 on March 5, 2008 at CPCA's 31st Annual Conference in Fresno. Chief Dyer brings much experience to the position of president of Cal Chiefs having served as police chief in Fresno for seven years and having been with the department for 29 years. Chief Dyer was appointed to the Cal Chiefs Board of Directors in 2004 and was elected 3rd vice president in 2005.

Chief Dyer has distinguished himself as a leader in law enforcement. Chief Dyer had the honor of being appointed as an Advisory Board member on Governor Schwarzenegger's California Gang Reduction Intervention Program and is the 2008 President of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program for the Central San Joaquin Valley and also serves as a voting member of the Sacramento Regional Threat Assessment Center Governance Board.

All of these achievements and experiences make Chief Dyer especially suited to lead the California Police Chiefs Association into what is deemed to be a very tough legislative, election, and budget year. Chief Dyer is committed to advancing the issues critical to public safety. "The potential release of tens of thousands of prisoners, potential cuts to public safety funding, the ongoing efforts to decriminalize drug use in California and the increase in gang violence are all issues I will be working on closely with the Legislature, the Attorney General and the Governor's Office during my presidency," said Chief Dyer. "I look forward to working with all of the other law enforcement associations as we strive together to improve the safety of the citizens of California."

The California Police Chiefs Association represents the state's municipal police chiefs whose agencies protect over 75 percent of the citizens of California.
