06/01/2007
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer would like to update last night's shooting in the Central District of the City.
On Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 6:10 pm, officers were sent to the 3300 block of E. Iowa Avenue regarding a shooting victim. Officers arrived and discovered a Hispanic male adult in his 30s outside a residence, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center for treatment where he was listed in critical condition. The victim's condition worsened as a result of his injuries, and he died at 4:00 am.
On-scene investigation determined that the incident was a fight between the victim and another Hispanic male. The suspect left the scene prior to officers' arrival, discarding the weapon, which has since been recovered.
Subsequent investigation by the Street Violence Bureau's Homicide Unit identified 21- year-old Ramon Perez of Fresno as a suspect in this case.
The motive is still under investigation. The Department is requesting the community's assistance in providing any information in this incident. There were numerous people who were present during the fight.
This is murder #18 for 2007. At this time last year, Fresno had 18 murders.
