Operation "Summer Heat" Begins Today
06/25/2007
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer is calling a press conference THIS AFTERNOON in response to an increase in shootings, primarily in Southwest, Southeast, and Central Fresno.
In cities across America, violent crimes tend to increase during the summer months, and Fresno is no exception. In the past two weeks, there have been 23 shootings in the City of Fresno, with 18 occurring in Southwest, Southeast, and Central Fresno; as many as seven shootings were gang-related.
Chief Dyer wants to send a strong message that Operation Summer Heat will not impact Operation Bulldog. In fact, both operations will work concurrently with the goal of suppressing any violence, especially gang violence, before it occurs.
Nearly 100 officers will participate in Operation Summer Heat, which will begin this afternoon.
Further details of Operation Summer Heat will be announced at 1:00 pm today at the City Hall Annex Main Training Room.
