Homicide #8 Update

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer would like to update the media on homicide number 8, which occurred in Northwest Fresno.
On March 15, 2007 at 4:40 pm, Downtown bike officers were contacted by Javance Payne, 47 of Fresno, at Police Headquarters. Payne calmly told bike officers that he was on parole and had killed somebody. The officers escorted Payne into the lobby and contacted a homicide supervisor. Payne told officers that the deceased person was inside his apartment which was located on the 2700 block of West Fairmont.
Officers were sent to the apartment to check on the possible deceased person. Officers entered the apartment and discovered a deceased black female adult in her 40's. The victim's identification will remain confidential pending next of kin notification.
Payne was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail for the murder.
This is the 8th homicide this year; compared with 8 homicides at this time last year.
