FRESNO POLICE OFFICER HONORED: Detective Wins Best Cold Case Solved
10/18/2007
Police Chief Jerry Dyer is pleased to announce that Fresno Police DNA Cold Case Detective Craig Attkisson has received the "Best of COPS West" Cold Case Solved Award.

Detective Attkisson was chosen among dozens of detectives throughout the state of California by the California Peace Officer's Association.

Detective Attkisson is honored for solving the August 15, 1985 homicide of a 14-year-old girl found nude in a canal. Prior to her death, the girl was sexually assaulted.

In 2005, Chief Dyer ordered the case reopened and Detective Attkisson logged in more than 500 investigative hours and re-interviewed more than 50 witnesses before suspect Eddie Nealy was arrested and charged with a murder he thought he had gotten away with.

Interviews with Detective Attkisson are available. Please contact Public Information Officer Jeff Cardinale at 621-2486 or 978-9687 (cell) with any media inquiries.
