AUTO THEFT SURGE With cold weather comes spike in stolen cars
11/29/2007
Police Chief Jerry Dyer would like to inform the public of a surge in auto thefts that has occurred this month, all of which were preventable.
In the month of November alone, more than 30 cars have been stolen from drivers who either left the vehicle idling and unattended or with the keys visable inside the vehicle.
During cold and hot months in Fresno, the Police Department sees a spike in stolen vehicles. Hundreds of residents report their vehicles stoln after leaving them unattended while the inside cools down or warms up. The Police Department would like to remind residents that it only takes a few moments for an opportunistic criminal to drive away with an unattended, running vehicle.
The good news is that auto thefts are down 16% this year in the City of Fresno. The even better news is that if residents did not leave unattended cars idling, the auto theft rate would be even lower!
