Murder Update
12/16/2006
This will be an update of an isolated domestic violence-related homicide.
Today, at 3:07 am, 21-year-old Matthew Sanchez called the Fresno Police Department to report a residential robbery that had just occurred at the apartment he shared with his girlfriend and two-month-old daughter. Upon the officer's arrival, Sanchez stated that his girlfriend had been shot by an unidentified suspect, but the baby was unharmed. The girlfriend, 21-year-old Megan Israelsky was found deceased inside the second story apartment and appeared to have sustained at least one gunshot injury.
Subsequent investigation by Homicide Detectives determined that the residential robbery did not occur, and Sanchez had murdered his girlfriend. The firearm believed to have been used by Sanchez to murder Israelsky was recovered at the scene. Sanchez was placed into Fresno County Jail and charged with murder. The couple's two-month-old daughter was placed with Child Protective Services.
Anyone with additional information about the murder of Megan Israelsky is urged to call Homicide Detective Richard Byrd at 621-2445.
