Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer is announcing the formation of a scholarship named for Officer Brian Nieto, who was shot and critically injured in the line of duty on July 31, 2006.

Chief Dyer, Brian Nieto’s family, along with the Fresno Police Officer’s Association announce the Brian Nieto Family Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will benefit one student each at all Fresno Unified City High Schools.

Anyone wishing to make contributions to the scholarship fund, can do so by contacting the Fresno Police Officer’s Association at (559) 442-3762. The FPOA’s address is 994 N. Van Ness, Fresno CA 93728.

Several organizations are also holding car washes this weekend. Proceeds go to pay the family’s expenses and fund the scholarship.

The car wash takes place Sunday, August 6 from 9:30 AM- 4 PM at Fresno Harley Davidson, Freedom Rider and Pelco (near the California Memorial).

The Correctional Academy, Fresno Police Academy 104-105, Fresno City College Fire Academy Class 25-26 will staff the car washes.
