Mayor’s Fitness Council
To inspire healthier lifestyle choices for all ages by supporting and enhancing local community-based fitness and nutrition groups; our goal is to increase knowledge and awareness of local fitness opportunities through a variety of collaborative efforts.
The Mayor's Fitness Council, founded in 2001, is a non-profit, 501(c) 3, program funded through in-kind contributions, local donations and grants. It is compiled of a group of committed citizens who volunteer their time and talents in an effort to encourage all citizens, young and old, to be more active. The council exists to create awareness, opportunities, and participation in fun, physically active events and programs throughout Fresno County. Mayor Alan Autry created a window of opportunity with the creation of the Mayor's Fitness Council.
Objectives:
To provide access to quality fitness programs for every Fresno citizen in every neighborhood by way of walking clubs and free aerobic classes with an emphasis on low income areas.
- To become the preferred local resource on fitness and healthy lifestyle choices.
- To achieve the designation of the "Fittest City" in America.
Keys to Success:
- Providing quality and low cost access to fitness resources in the Fresno area
- Develop key partnerships with local leaders, government, business and fitness organizations.
- Unique concept providing for a healthier community to be more productive, less crime driven, decreased disease, translating into safer and happier cities.
