Fresno United Neighborhoods (FUN)
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department established the Fresno Unified Neighborhoods (FUN) non-profit as a major engine of capacity-building. FUN is a 501(c) (3) community services agency whose mission is to improve the quality of life in Fresno through innovative and collaborative outreach initiatives in recreation, health, and learning. FUN has replaced the CERIAL (Community Educational Recreational Instructional Activities League).
Goals:
- Private Sector Partnerships
- Community Partnerships
- Park Development
- Park and Open Space Expansion
- PRCS Professional Development
- Increased and Enhanced Programs and Activities
The FUN fund will build capacity for PRCS in the following ways:
- Greatly expand grant opportunities.
- Empower neighborhood and community groups without non-profit status, so that they can fundraise through FUN.
- Give private citizens and the community a tax-write off for the donation of land and equipment, which PRCS needs.
- Receive funding by being embarked through the United Way funding system.
- Provide new funding sources for the construction and improvement of parks.
- Expand partnership opportunities.
- Partner with area corporations, such as Home Depot, to help build pocket parks.
