Mayor Autry Pays Homage to 70 Years of the Veterns Memorial Auditorium and Celebrates the Future of this Historic Building

FRESNO, CA (April 26, 2006) - The City of Fresno Department of Parks Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) would like to invite the media to join Mayor Alan Autry, Council Member Cynthia Sterling, PRCS Director Randy Cooper and Memorial Auditorium Restoration Society’s Chuck Leavitt for an important announcement about the future of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, it’s 70th Anniversary celebration and the establishment of a new Cultural Arts Team (CAT) on Thursday, April 27th at 12:00 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

PRCS is also inviting City and County employees as well as all citizens to learn about CAT’s initiative to restore the Veterans Memorial Auditorium and invest in its future as a venue for performing arts, educational opportunities and cultural entertainment. Following the announcements, those in attendance will be treated to a sampling of the talent within the Cultural Arts Team including brief performances by the California Opera Association, Children’s Musical Theatreworks and Cynthia Merrill’s Cotillion Dancers.
