Hey Kids!

Learning about fire safety is very important, but it can be fun!

Learning Fire Safety:
  • Take a look around your house with your parents. Are there fire safety hazards? Use this checklist to find out.
  • Have you gone over Operation E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills in the Home) with your parents or guardians?
  • Sit down with your parents and create a fire escape plan for every room in your house. Make sure you can identify two ways out of every room.
  • Pick a family meeting place outside. Make sure everyone in your family knows where to meet.

The Consequences of Playing with Fire:

  • While fire is an important tool for adults, there can be serious consequences if someone uses fire in a dangerous way. Both children and adults can be charged with a crime if they intentionally set a fire. Fire can spread quickly and get out of control. Fire can cause large amounts of property damage and also hurt or kill people.

  • In addition, children who play with fire can get into serious trouble. You could have to complete community service or even spend time in juvenile hall if caught setting fires.
