Downtown and Community Revitalization Department
The City of Fresno Downtown and Community Revitalization Department's mission is to:
- Coordinate the effort to transform downtown Fresno into a vibrant center of activity for the Central San Joaquin Valley
- Restore the historic neighborhoods that encircle downtown Fresno into healthy, mixed-income communities that are desirable for their quality of life and their proximity to a revitalized city center
- Build a strong, sustainable economy through a community-wide effort to support locally-owned businesses, start-up companies, water technology and other green technologies
Downtown Revitalization
Picture your favorite city. Are people walking up and down the sidewalk? Is there a mix of local restaurants, shops, public areas, offices, and living space? Is there nightlife?
When you think of a city, you probably think of its downtown. In Downtown Fresno, the City is supporting new events to bring foot traffic, a higher standard for planning and design, incentives for investment and development, and a stronger role for the private sector.
Neighborhood Revitalization Our community-led revitalization efforts have brought together City of Fresno departments, local schools, non-profits, faith-based organizations, businesses, property owners, and most importantly our residents. Dozens of groups and local residents are all working together for the first time, communicating openly to plan, design, fund and restore our historic neighborhoods and create a better quality and self-sustaining life for our citizens.
