Weekly Highlight Report
The Citywide Weekly Report highlights various activities throughout the City for the week.  Consistent with our mission to ensure equal access to opportunity, education, and quality of life for every man, woman and child regardless of their race, religion, age or socio-economic status, this report will work to organize our weekly achievements so that we can measure and maximize our management and performance toward reaching our goals.  It is our intent that this report will help to improve communications about the programs and services provided to both the City Council and the community.

KEY RESULT AREA: PUBLIC SAFETY

Fire
The department's residential sprinkler Public Service Announcement is receiving national attention and was featured on the front page of The Fresno Bee on February 28.

From February 15 - 28, 2008 at 1500 hours, fire crews responded to 1,281 incidents.


KEY RESULT AREA: CUSTOMER SERVICE

General Services
National Recognition - For the second consecutive year, the General Services Department Purchasing Division was the recipient of the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for 2007. At the City Council meeting this week, the Council presented the Division with a Resolution of commendation for the standard of excellent to the Purchasing Division staff.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise - Purchasing and DBE staff attended an informational meeting with Caltrans on February 25, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to give all local agencies that receive Federal Highway funds through Caltrans an update on the transition from a Race Neutral to a Race Conscious DBE Program and to provide guidance on how local agencies may prepare for the transition.

Parks
The Parks, After School, Recreation & Community Services Department was highlighted at a state conference in Long Beach for the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS). Nearly 5,000 people were shown a video starring Director Randy Cooper. The video was produced by CPRS to be distributed throughout the state advocating Parks & Recreation facilities. The conference recognized the city of Fresno as one of the leaders in the state for providing quality programs that promote health and wellness, foster human development, strengthen safety and save lives. 

KEY RESULT AREA: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Airports
2008 Valley Business Conference  - Fresno Yosemite International Airport participated in the 2008 Valley Business Conference by becoming one of the sponsors for the Expo/Luncheon and the VIP Conference Reception. FYI Airport cordially welcomed this year's distinguished speakers at the VIP Reception. The Airport's booth attracted many visitors during the conference and expo, receiving compliments on the upcoming 'Sense of Place' Sequoia tree concept for the terminal lobby renovation and for the baggage area expansion projects.
