08/26/2010

Fresno, CA (August 26, 2010) On Friday, August 27th, at 3:00PM at the Zimmerman Boys & Girls Club (540 N Augusta), Councilmember Henry T. Perea and the AT&T Pioneers volunteer group will present a donation of 50 backpacks filled with school supplies.
Councilmember Perea was inspired to help after seeing a news story about backpack donations and the number of deserving children in Fresno who cannot afford to buy proper school supplies. Perea teamed up with the AT&T Pioneers group to help the Boys & Girls Clubs meet the needs of the community.
AT&T employees have been giving back to their communities through the AT&T Pioneers of America since 1911. Currently over 300,000 employees and retirees are members; in 2009 they collectively donated over 8.5 million hours of service. Locally, AT&T and the AT&T Pioneers have donated and distributed hundreds of backpacks to help Valley children start the school year successfully.

Councilmember Perea and AT&T representative Eric Johnson will officially give the backpacks to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County, President/CPO Kenneth Quenzer, and Executive Director Diane Carbray at a press conference on Friday afternoon at 3:00PM at the Zimmerman Boys & Girls Club located at 540 N Augusta, Fresno, CA.
