Councilmember Perea Will Ask City Of Fresno to Work with the County for New Medical Marijuana Regulations
09/14/2010

Fresno, CA (September 14, 2010) On Thursday, September 16th, during the Council Comments portion of the City of Fresno Council meeting, Councilmember Perea will be asking the City of Fresno to work with the County of Fresno to establish a policy to regulate medical marijuana within the City and County of Fresno.

Councilmember Perea’s request will come in support of an action unanimously passed today by the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. This action presents a 45 day moratorium on outdoor marijuana cultivation in the County (indoor legal growth would not be affected) in order to find solutions to several issues associated with medical marijuana. The Board passed this action in response to several recent violent crimes that have been associated with outdoor marijuana farms and hopes to find permanent land-use oriented solutions to protect neighborhoods from this type of activity in the future.

“I am 100% behind the County’s action and want to urge the City of Fresno to take similar steps. Anyone following the news lately has seen how outdoor growth of medical marijuana has adversely affected residential neighborhoods. We need to find solutions that reduce, not increase, violent crimes in our neighborhoods.”
