Councilmember Perea Announces White Cane Day

Fresno, CA (May 20, 2010) On Friday, May 21st, at 10:00AM Councilmember Henry T. Perea will join with the Valley Center for the Blind and the Fresno Host Lions Club in front of City Hall to announce White Cane Day in the City of Fresno.

White Cane Day, Saturday May 22, 2010, is a fundraising event to increase public awareness of blind and visually impaired persons as well as the importance of the white cane used by many of these individuals. Proceeds from this event will be donated by the Fresno Host Lions Club to the Valley Center for the Blind. Individuals can go to various locations staffed by members of Lions Club and Valley Center for the Blind, including Manchester Center, Sam’s Club at Riverpark, Walmart at Palm and Herndon and California Eye Institute and receive a white cane for their donation of $1 or more.

Councilmember Perea is pleased to help kick off this event with Friday’s press conference and urges all of Fresno to participate by donating to this worthy cause.
