Fresno, CA (May 20, 2009) On April 30th, 2009, Councilmember Henry T. Perea won unanimous support for a resolution calling for participation in the National League of Cities Prescription Drug Card Program. The program provides prescription drug discount cards that can be distributed to local residents and used at participating pharmacies to receive up to 20% off medications. Over 100 pharmacies in the Fresno area already participate in the program and enrollment is open regardless of income or previous medical history. Funding has been including in the coming budget to allow Fresno to launch a NLC Prescription Drug Card Program.

“Medical bills are one of the top reasons for filling bankruptcy in America. This is the type of program that can help ease that burden for the residents of Fresno and prevent people from having to choose between medicine and food.”
