Perea in Sacramento to Applaud Senate for Passing New Comprehensive Water Plan and Urge Assembly to Follow Suit
Fresno, CA (November 3, 2009) Councilmember Henry T. Perea wishes to commend the California State Senate on a bipartisan vote taken late last night to approve a new water plan that focuses on long term solutions to California’s ongoing water issues. Senate Bill 7X 1 includes a $9.99 billion bond, a new state agency for the delta and a water conservation mandate.
Councilmember Perea is in Sacramento today to lobby the Assembly for approval of the plan which includes bond funding for water storage, restoring the delta ecosystem and water supply reliability projects throughout the state and new conversation rules that mandate 20% conservation for urban areas, new monitoring of groundwater use and increased penalties for illegal water diversions.
“The Central Valley has been waiting a long time for Sacramento to step up to the plate with real leadership on water policy. I wish to commend the State Senate for moving forward with a plan and hope that California can soon look forward to a new, better and more sustainable water policy.”
