Perea and Council Vote to Support Tax Protection Act
12/03/2009
Fresno, CA (December 3, 2009) On Thursday, December 3rd, Councilmember Henry T. Perea and the Fresno City Council voted to support the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Act of 2010. The resolution was presented to the Council by Member Perea in response to continual budget issues in local and state government. By passing the resolution the City of Fresno has pledged to join the League of California Cities in support of this ballot initiative which seeks to close loopholes and change the constitution to further prevent State politicians from seizing, diverting, shifting, borrowing, transferring, suspending or otherwise taking or interfering with tax revenues dedicated to funding local government services.
“I’m seeking to protect my constituency and their tax dollars. The people of California have decided where these monies should go and I think that’s where they should stay. If cities like Fresno are going to get through this budget crisis we are going to need all the resources we have and I fully support the closing of loopholes that would allow State government to take those resources.”
