Perea Urges Opposition to Governor’s Budget Cuts
03/03/2008

Fresno, CA (March 3, 2008) At the Tuesday March 4, 2008 Council meeting Councilmember Henry T. Perea will ask the City Council to publicly oppose budget cuts to law enforcement agencies propose by Governor Schwarzenegger. The 2008-09 cuts could include the release of 22,000 convicted felons, 1,240 to be released into the Fresno area, as well as the loss of 6,000 jobs.

“I know everyone is concerned about our budget, but taking resources away from law enforcement while releasing felons is not a step in the right direction. The citizens of Fresno take the safety of their families very seriously and I believe this should be a top priority for law makers. I will not ask the public I serve to compromise on keeping their community safe.”
