Perea And City Council Approve Youth Advisory Board
09/16/2008

Fresno, CA (September 16, 2008) At Tuesday’s Council meeting the Fresno City Council unanimously approved the formation of a Youth Advisory Board. The Board will have members appointed by each Councilmember as well as the Mayor’s office.

The idea for a Youth Advisory Board or Youth City Council was first brought up by Councilmember Henry T. Perea in March of 2008 in response to public interest in a proposed curfew at the Riverpark shopping center. After several community meetings about the curfew, young residents of Fresno expressed a need to participate in decision making at a city wide level. Councilmember Perea felt that a board or council would be the best way to achieve this.

“I’m extremely proud to see this approved. This is the kind of action that is going to allow Fresno to move into the future and I can’t wait to see what this board is going to do.”
