Perea Praises Air Board's Decision to Sue U.S. E.P.A.
06/21/2007
Fresno, CA (June 21, 2007) On Thursday, June 21st, The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District Board voted to join Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown in a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to force the E.P.A. to make a decision on granting California a waiver to allow the State to set new standards for pollution emitted from mobile sources.

Fresno City Council President Perea has been vocally supportive of a waiver for the future of California’s environment. On May 30th, 2007, he traveled to Sacramento to testify before the E.P.A as both a member of the Air Board and a representative of one of the most polluted regions of California. Perea fully supports the Governors intent to force the issue of a federal waiver and is pleased that the Air Board is also standing behind it.

“As California moves forward on this lawsuit, I believe it is vital for every community in the San Joaquin Valley to stand with our State. Since local agencies don’t have the authority to regulate mobile sources of pollution we must force those who can.”
