Perea Joins Statewide Task Force to Fight Obesity and Diabetes

Fresno, CA (August 3, 2007) Council President Henry T. Perea has committed to joining a legislative task force to study and combat the rising rates of obesity. The task force will work together to both study the causes of obesity in Latinos, African-Americans, Asian Pacific Islanders and Native Americans and to recommended strategies to fight the increasing rates of obesity and diabetes in these groups.
Council President Perea is excited to be asked to be a part of this task force and is anxious to address this issue. “Obesity and diabetes have become serious health concerns in this country and we cannot afford to sit by and hope they get better.”
Perea was recommended to the committee by Senator Alex Padilla of the 20th district and approved by the Senate Rules Committee and Committee Chair Don Perata on Wednesday, July 25. Council President Perea is looking forward to serving in this capacity and optimistic about the goals of the task force.
