Perea Cuts Ribbon at Student Run Bank
09/12/2007
Fresno, CA (September 12, 2007) On Thursday, September 13th, at 9:30AM Council President Henry T. Perea will attend the ribbon cutting for the first ever student run bank in California. The branch, which will open at McLane High school, will be run by students and provide real world financial experience as well as scholarships to participants.
The FDIC has supported the implementation of student run banks in other parts of the United States as a way to help the next generation make better financial decisions. Fresno Unified School District was chosen for the first California branch because of its high percentage of residents without current bank accounts. The branch seeks to educate students about personal banking and loan practices in order for them to become financially savvy adults.
