Perea Launches Digital Neighborhoods Initiative
06/20/2006

Fresno , CA ( June 20th, 2006 ) On Friday, June 16th, Henry T. Perea announced a new tool to assist Neighborhood Watch groups lower crime and keep their communities safe. Yahoo “members only” groups will be set up for any District 7 Neighborhood Watch that wishes to participate. This “Digital Neighborhoods” initiative is designed for Watch groups that want to exchange ideas and information about neighborhood activities in a private forum. Participants will also be able to send information and descriptions of criminal activity to each other and the Police Department.

The first Neighborhood Watch group to participate is located just north of Manchester Center. A series of criminal activities around the area was what initially lead to the idea of a more efficient way for Neighborhood Watch groups to communicate.

“I have always felt that volunteer groups such as the Neighborhood Watch are a key part of a healthy neighborhood. Finding creative ways to support these groups is one of my top priorities. Hopefully these “news groups” will provide a faster easier way to communicate and in turn make for safer and healthier communities.”
