Perea Teams With The Next Generation Of Builders To Create A New Downtown
06/02/2006
Fresno, CA (June 2, 2006) On Monday, June 5th, at 11:00AM at the Broadway studios, Councilmember Henry T. Perea will join with three forward thinking Fresno developers to announce the start of a new breed of development project. The project’s concept, which will be presented to the Fresno City Council on Tuesday June 6th, will develop a section of downtown Fresno as a preplanned neighborhood. An exact location has not been finalized, but the project, also known as an Entertainment District, will seek to turn an existing downtown location into an urban neighborhood with housing, commercial and entertainment venues all within walking distance of each other.
This new concept in Fresno development is the brainchild of City Councilmember Henry T. Perea along with up and coming developers Reza Assmi, Will Dyck, and Austin Ewell. Councilmember Perea is especially excited to take development in Fresno to a new level. "We’re looking to do something completely different from the Fresno we all grew up in. This isn’t just a new housing tract, or a new strip mall, or even a new Riverpark, this is creating an urban neighborhood. This looks to what was done in cities like Portland, San Diego and Sacramento. Those were towns that saw the benefits of a real urban downtown and aggressively developed one. That’s what we envision as the next level of Fresno development."
The project will feature 250 residential units for both sale and rent along with 75,000 square feet of commercial space. "Green" building technology, professional landscaping, and building plans that put residential and commercial within walking distance will all be used to create a livable, environmentally friendly new urban neighborhood.
