Councilman Brand To Present “Better Business Act” Proposal
05/11/2009
New Policy Aimed at Better Qualifying Applicants for City Financing Would Include Due Diligence and Oversight.
Fresno City Councilman Lee Brand released a resolution he will be bringing forward for City Council approval at their May 21st meeting which is aimed at better qualifying applicants for City financing. The proposed resolution, named the “Better Business Act”, is a comprehensive policy designed to objectively evaluate private sector requests of the City of Fresno for financial assistance exceeding $1,000,000.
“Current City policies do not adequately address reviewing qualifications of applicants for City financial assistance,” stated Councilman Brand. “They offer only minimal due diligence and no oversight.” “This resolution will provide a rational business model for evaluating proposals that come before us and dramatically reduce political influences on decision-making.”
The resolution is supported by the Mayor and has been thoroughly reviewed by the City Attorney, City Manager. Councilman Brand will be making numerous presentations outlining his proposal to local community groups, including business and labor leaders, prior to the May 21st Council meeting.
