Four Years of Service Progress Report

Dear Resident:

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a progress report as to what we have done for the last four years of my stewardship as your City Council Representative. It has been my honor and privilege to serve on the City Council representing the constituents of District 5.

As you probably have noticed the growth in Southeast Fresno has continued with construction of new homes continuing at a fast pace. This growth is due in large part to the City of Fresno’s new general plan which was approved two years ago with the specific emphasis on growth to go from the North end of the City to the Southeast section of the City. The goal of the City of Fresno is to have affordable housing and some apartments that are gated to be built in Southeast Fresno with the goal in mind that existing home values are to be maintained and upgrade.

Along with all of the residential growth in Southeast Fresno we are vigorously pursuing our new infrastructure program appropriately called the “No Neighborhood Left Behind”. With this program we have targeted neighborhoods in Southeast Fresno that are critically in need of repair and upgrading.

On the Economic front, and more specifically on the job creation front we are working with our economic team to bring in new viable businesses into Southeast Fresno. We are also working with County of Fresno to bring about job creation by financially supporting the Regional Jobs Initiative.

On the Public Safety front we are continuing to give our Police Department and Fire Department the resources necessary to make our streets and neighborhoods safe and secure. The most recent statistics show that Southeast Fresno has one of the lowest rate of violent crime of any sector in the City of Fresno.

We have made consistent progress to clean up our neighborhoods by having my City Council staff consistently go in to neighborhoods throughout the Council District to identify code enforcement issues. We also assisted in financing the Beautification of Southeast Fresno by upgrading and beautifying Kings Canyon Ave. I think you would agree with me Kings Canyon Avenue is much different street from what was just a few years ago.

One of my goals as a council member for the last four years has been to increase the number of Parks and Recreation facilities and activities in Southeast Fresno. In addition to the ambitious recreational facilities coming on line we are expanding the recreational activities in the Council District by providing for the first time in several years the expansion of soccer leagues and reestablished the little league baseball program at the Mosqueda Center which has been a resounding success.

On the Legislative front I introduced legislation that passed with the approval of the City Council. These ordinances include the Downtown Parking Ordinance, the No Contact Ordinance, the Apprenticeship program, and finally the Nuisance Tree Ordinance.

In conclusion I want to make it clear that if at any time you need to speak to me on any city issue please give me a call at City Hall at 621-8000. It has been my honor to serve you for the last four years and I look forward to serving you the next four years.

Sincerely

Mike Dages.
Council Member District 5
