| Fresno, Hmong agree to move garden: Plan relocates farmers to site at Melody Park. Oct 18, 2008 (The Fresno Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) – It looks as though a group of Hmong farmers will have their community garden in Fresno after all -- but they will be tilling the soil in a new location. Friday, city officials and five of the eight families who farm the garden on Belmont Avenue reached an accord to relocate it to Melody Park, near Fowler and Shields avenues. They're hoping today will begin changes for "El Dorado Park" in northeast Fresno which runs from Barstow to the north and Bulldog Lane to the south. | District 4 Council member, Larry Westerlund, is pleased to announce new, improved bus shelters for students and patrons riding City transportation near Fresno State University. In an effort to improve air quality through increased ridership of public transportation, the Clean Air Fund Implementation Team comprised of University staff met with Fresno Area Express (FAX) for assistance to provide incentives that would increase the use of public transportation around the Fresno State campus. Council member Westerlund suggested the replacement and improvement of old bus shelters along Shaw Avenue as a way to attract riders. >more |
