Westerlund Elected Fresno Council Leader

Fresno City Council Member Larry Westerlund was elected council president Thursday morning in a brief meeting.

Westerlund, who represents District 4, succeeds District 3 Council Member Cynthia Sterling. The council presidency is rotated annually by district number, but the council still conducts an election.

District 6 Council Member Lee Brand was elected acting council president. He will run meetings when Westerlund is absent. As it did with Westerlund, the council gave Brand its unanimous approval.

The council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency board, also unanimously elected Brand as chairman and District 1 Council Member Blong Xiong, last year's chairman, as vice chairman.
