Railroad Improvements Begin in Valley
Railroad crossing improvements began in District Four on Thursday, at the Shields and Clovis Ave. interchange.
The improvements are part of a collaborative effort with the City Council District Four, Public Works, Redevelopment Agency and the San Joaquin Valley Railroad.
Officials say that while these repairs are occurring, that the Shields Ave. crossing east of Clovis Ave. will be closed for two days beginning on March 15. The repairs include replacing the deteriorated wood planks with new concrete planks on the crossings. Officials are hoping that the improvements will provide increased safety drivers and pedestrians in these areas.
The project was two years in the making.
Fresno City Council Member Larry Westerlund, who represents District Four, said that he was excited about the new improvements to the crossing," The new concrete planks will improve the health and safety for our citizens as well as promote business expansion and new development within the project areas by eliminating the blighted condition."
This project is just the first of four that will be worked on. Three other railroad crossings will be worked on as well at the following locations; Chestnut, Maple and Cedar crossings.
