08/19/2003
FRESNO, CA (August 19, 2003) Fresno City Councilmember Brian Calhoun is pleased to join five Fresno Schools in his district as they each receive $1,000 in grant funding from the management team of Wal-Mart stores. Walmart manager, Victoria Howard, contacted Councilmember Calhoun and asked for recommendations regarding which schools near Walmart in his district could use some financial assistance. Councilmember Calhoun was pleased to recommend five of the six schools that were selected. Walmart Assistant Manager, Dan Linder, and Councilmember Calhoun will be joined by principals from Bullard High School, Teague, Lawless, Figarden and Saroyan Elementary schools on Thursday morning to receive checks.
”As a teacher myself, I look forward to personally recognizing Walmart for their continued support of our community and was pleased to have five schools in my district selected to receive this grant funding. During such tight budget times as these, private support from the community is very much appreciated by my office and our education community.” said Calhoun.
