11/08/04  Councilmember Calhoun Joins Mayor Autry to Announce the Naming of Veteran's Boulevard
FRESNO, CA (November 08, 2004) Northwest District 2 Councilmember Brian Calhoun joins Mayor Alan Autry today to announce that one of Fresno's newest roads will be named Veteran's Blvd. The new road will be dedicated in honor of veterans around the world. Veteran's Boulevard will be a six-lane road stretching four miles between Herndon Avenue and Grantland Avenue.The ceremony will take place at The Legion of Valor Museum >more

11/13/03  Councilmembers Brian Calhoun and Mike Dages Will Introduce a Resolution to Oppose a 33% Gas Rate Increase by PG&E
FRESNO, CA (November 13, 2003) Fresno City Councilmembers Brian Calhoun and Mike Dages will introduce a resolution Thursday afternoon at City Hall which expresses a grave concern regarding the impact to Fresno’s fixed income senior citizens and low income families which will result by the proposed 33% spike in rates by PG&E.“I acknowledge that many in our community will not be as severely impacted by this additional drain on their disposable income; however, there are so many more that cannot absorb this increase and will be devastated by this elimination of their income,” said Councilmember Calhoun.Councilmember Dages echoed by saying, “There are many fixed income senior citizens and families that live well below the poverty level throughout our community that will not be able to sustain another hit like this to their pocketbooks. >more

10/27/03  Councilmember Calhoun to Propose Public Restaurant Rating System
RESNO, CA (October 27, 2003) Northwest District 2 Councilmember Brian Calhoun will present a proposal to Fresno City Council on Tuesday October 28, 2003 to introduce plans for a publicly posted restaurant rating system. Although the County Community Health Department oversees the restaurant inspection process, Calhoun feels that requesting the County to consider adopting a system that would include a visible posting requirement to inform the public of a restaurant's performance would be in the best interest of the public."I would like Fresno to benefit from what San Diego, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles have already done, which may include the A-B-C rating system, or another program which accomplishes the same goals. >more

08/19/03  Councilmember Brian Calhoun to Join Wal-Mart and Area School Principals in Community Grant Check Presentation
FRESNO, CA (August 19, 2003) Fresno City Councilmember Brian Calhoun is pleased to join five Fresno Schools in his district as they each receive $1,000 in grant funding from the management team of Wal-Mart stores. Walmart manager, Victoria Howard, contacted Councilmember Calhoun and asked for recommendations regarding which schools near Walmart in his district could use some financial assistance. Councilmember Calhoun was pleased to recommend five of the six schools that were selected. >more
