Fly Wi-Fi (Wireless) At FYI


What is Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi, or Wireless Fidelity, is a term that is used generically to refer to any product or service using any type of 802.11 technology. Wi-Fi networks operate in the unlicensed 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, with an 11 Mbps (802.11b) or 54 Mbps (802.11a) data rate, respectively.

Wi-Fi enabled devices (laptops or PDAs) can send and receive data wirelessly from any location equipped with Wi-Fi access. How? Access points, installed within a Wi-Fi location, transmit an RF signal to Wi-Fi enabled devices that are within range of the access point, which is about 300 feet.

What do I need to use the FYI Wi-Fi Network?

Using the airport's Wi-Fi network is simple. All you need is a laptop or PDA with Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless capability, and a standard Web browser. If your device is not Wi-Fi enabled then you will need to buy a Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless networking card from the manufacturer, or from any major electronics retailer. If you are already using a wireless network at home or in the office then you probably already have the necessary equipment.

How do I set my SSID?

You'll need to set your SSID (or network identifier) to ‘fyi-airport' in order to synchronize to the FYI network. Please refer to your wireless network card documentation for instructions on how to configure your device.

How do I login?

First time users - From within the airport coverage area, launch your Web browser. Your browser will bring up a login screen. From this screen you are given the option of purchasing a session. Follow the instructions to purchase a session, input the appropriate customer billing information via our secure New Customer Sign-up page, and remember your user name and password for future log-in. Enter your case sensitive User ID and Password and click “Submit”. You then will be asked to agree to ‘Terms of Use' by clicking ‘I Agree' This should take you to your default home page and you will be free to suff the Internet.

Returning users - Can avoid the sign-up process simply by logging in with their previous user ID and password, thus avoiding the account set-up process.

What do I do if I receive the following error message – “Page cannot be displayed”?

Check to see if you have a secured service (i.e. https J set as your default home page. If so, then change it to any public web address. Also, check if your browser is set for a proxy server. If so, then disable the proxy setting.

How do I log-out of my account?

Once you have successfully connected to the airport network, a small window will appear indicating you have logged in. When you are ready to leave, click on :Log off” in the small window. Some PDA's don't support multiple windows, so just close your browser or power off.
