TSA to Introduce Advanced Imaging Technology Software at FAT
09/07/2011
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will conduct a media availability Thursday, September 8, to demonstrate new advanced imaging technology (AIT) software being deployed at Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT).
TSA is installing new software, referred to as Automated Target Recognition, on its millimeter wave AIT machines. The software enhances privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images and instead depicting anomalies detected during the screening process through a generic, computer-generated outline of a person that is identical for all passengers.
AIT safely screens passengers for metallic and nonmetallic threats, including explosives, without physical contact to keep the traveling public safe. TSA has ensured strict privacy protections are in place and the technology is optional for all passengers. TSA has deployed nearly 500 imaging technology units at 78 airports nationwide.
Additionally, TSA officials will provide information to assist with 9-11 anniversary stories.
