11/01/2011
Passenger traffic at Fresno Yosemite International Airport has shown marked improvement with six consecutive months of passenger traffic growth. The last two quarters have repositioned the Airport back to 2007 levels when traffic was at its peak before the economic downturn and loss of daily service to Mexico.
Passenger levels have shown significant increases over the last few months with July ranked as the highest traffic month for 2011:
• July report 124,885 passengers
• June report 124,141 passengers
• May report 115,530 passengers (a 10.53 percent increase over May 2010)
Year-to-date passenger traffic is up by 5.15 percent overall and forecast to be the second best year in reported history.
Factors contributing to the higher passenger numbers include reinstating international air service to Guadalajara, Mexico as well as increased seasonal flight frequencies from existing domestic air carriers.
Re-establishing international air service at Fresno Yosemite International Airport has proven to be a significant economic success for the Airport and the region. Fresno Yosemite and its concession partners have achieved notable revenue increases, while travelers have benefited from competitive airfares stimulated by competition between AeroMexico and Volaris airlines.
Regional economic benefits of air service include:
• Increased economic stimulation
• Competitive airfares
• More airline choices
• Access to international destinations
• Job creation
• International port of entry for the region
• Increased tourism opportunities
