Widmar and Slominski Selected to Receive AIAA/AAAE/ACC Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), and the Airports Consultants Council (ACC) are pleased to announce that Russell C. Widmar, Director of Aviation at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Larry Slominski, Vice President-Western Region Sales at WorldWater and Solar Technologies have been selected as the 2009 recipients of the Jay Hollingsworth Speas Airport Award

Co-sponsored by AIAA, AAAE, and ACC, the award is presented to the person or persons judged to have contributed most outstandingly during the recent past towards achieving compatible relationships between airports and/or heliports and adjacent environments. Established by Planning Research Corporation in 1984, the award honors Jay Hollingsworth Speas who focused on environmental relationships between airports and the communities served and who accomplished several projects in this area, both civil and military.

Widmar and Slominski will accept the award on February 26, 2009 during the AAAE/ACC Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium at the Denver Marriott Tech Center in Denver, Colorado.

The award recognizes Widmar and Slominski for imaginatively creating a public/private partnership to develop a solar power generating system on fallow approach zone land that will yield megawatts of clean renewable energy for the airport and reduced emissions in the community in virtual perpetuity.
