FYI Airport Posts Excellent On-Time Record

FRESNO, CA
(February 25, 2008) - Despite nationwide air traffic congestions and weather related flight delays in December, Fresno Yosemite International Airport’s on-time flight departure and arrival operations placed FYI out of the top 100 continental U.S. airports for on-time flights.
According to the recently released U. S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Report, FYI enjoyed a 79.8% on-time departure rate and a 75.5% arrival rate for domestic flights. This on-time departure percentage reflects a significant increase in on-time performance for FYI since its previous 13th Airport ranking in November, and boosts the airport from 35th to 2nd in on-time arrivals. The December report is based on data collected by the Department’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
This is most notable since the Central Valley often experiences impaired visibility due to severe fog conditions. However, Fresno Yosemite International is one of the few California airports with a Category III(b) Instrument Landing System, a sophisticated system that provides aircraft the ability to land at FYI in conditions of reduced visibility, thereby minimizing weather-related delays.
While airports across the nation struggle with weather and crowding related delays, the lack of congested airspace at FYI allows fuel sensitive airlines the ability to record safe and timely landings and take-offs; pleasing both business and leisure air travelers alike.
Nine carriers currently offer Valley passengers approximately 50 daily domestic and international departures from Fresno. FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
