FYI Summer Passenger Numbers Set New Record
10/01/2007
Fresno, CA (October 1, 2007) Fresno Yosemite International Airport enjoyed record breaking passenger traffic this summer. In July, 127,632 passengers flew to and from Fresno, the highest passenger record for commercial air travel at the Airport. This exceeded the Airport’s previous record traffic set in June with 127,091 passengers. FYI’s record breaking summer concluded with August numbers reflecting the fifth busiest month in the Airport’s history with 121,414 passengers traveling though FYI.

Three factors continue to contribute to the higher passenger numbers: the new intrastate service on ExpressJet to Ontario and San Diego, increased seasonal flight frequencies by United Express to Salt Lake City and American Airlines to Los Angeles, and US Airways upgrade to the larger A319 jet on the afternoon Las Vegas route. In addition, high passenger loads experienced by the other airlines at FYI contributed to these record breaking passenger numbers. Year-to-date passenger traffic at FYI has increased 2.54% over last year positioning FYI on pace to set a fourth consecutive record airline passenger travel year.

With travel up across the nation, passengers are advised to book well in advance of their scheduled departure date to obtain the best rate and their choice of airline and flight times. Arriving early at the airport will also allow airline staff to accommodate passengers if rebooking becomes necessary due to weather or other issues.

Nine carriers currently offer Valley passengers 50 daily departures from Fresno. FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
