Passenger Numbers Continue to Climb at FYI
12/05/2006

Fresno Yosemite International Airport continues to experience record breaking passenger numbers paving the way for another historic year in 2006. October marked another busy month with 112,543 passengers accessing FYI. This year, travelers flying to and from Fresno set repeated records for total numbers of passengers per month over the same month in 2005.

“These excellent numbers illustrate the demand for air service in the Central region of California,” noted Director of Aviation Russ Widmar. “The increase in flight frequencies and aircraft size has enhanced access, affordability, and convenience for business and leisure travelers.”

Since January, total passenger numbers including international travel have increased at FYI by 7.39%. According to the Air Transport Association, domestic enplanements have dropped nationally by 1.9% for the year-to-date. In contrast, Fresno’s domestic passenger boardings have increased by 5.73%. Flights from FYI have been fuller as well, with an average October passenger load of 73.2%.

Ten carriers currently offer Valley passengers 50 daily departures from Fresno. FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
