Busy July for FYI
08/31/2006

Fresno, CA (August 31, 2006) – July marked another busy month at Fresno Yosemite International with the Airport recording 126,855 passengers closing out the hectic summer travel season. This year, travelers flying to and from Fresno help to set repeated records for total numbers of passengers per month over the same month in 2005.

“Fresno has been fortunate to enjoy excellent airline service that continues to grow along with our community growth,” noted Director of Aviation Russ Widmar. “With an eye to providing the best in customer service, I am pleased that the new international service on Mexicana and the increases in flight frequencies and aircraft size have improved access, affordability, and convenience to our beautiful central region of California.”

Since January, total passenger numbers including international travel have increased at FYI by 8.49%. According to aviation reporting agency Air Transport Association, domestic enplanements have dropped nationally by 1.5% for the year-to-date. In contrast, Fresno’s domestic passenger boardings have increased by 8.6%. Flights from FYI have been fuller as well, with an average passenger load in July of 85%, meeting or exceeding reported loads for airlines systemwide according to aviation consulting firm Eclat.

Ten carriers currently offer Valley passengers 50 daily departures from Fresno. FYI is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate Fresno Yosemite International or Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.
