Fresno Chandler Executive Airport Improvements

Chandler Airport Improvements

The City of Fresno has made numerous improvements to Chandler Executive through the years. In 1929, a single oiled runway was constructed launching the commencement of air service in 1930. A terminal building was built in 1936 which remains in use today housing the Chandler Executive's Airport Administration and Max Landing eatery. Currently, the historic Chandler terminal buidling is in the process of a phased restoration project which will restore the termial builidng to the original 1930s grandeur.

Construction of 66 new hangars, including 9 twin hangars and 57 T-hangars, was completed in 2001. Construction of additional hangars are being considered for the near future.

Recent improvements of Chandler Executive's airfield have been completed. The improvements consist of reconstruction of the aircraft apron, rehabilitation of the airfield lighting which included the replacement of the runway and taxiway lights and airfield signs; improvements to the airfield electrical vault, including an emergency generator for the runway lighting systems; rehabilitation and improvements to the airport drainage system; pavement overlay of runway 12/30 and a minor extension (184') to the main runway 12/30. The pollution control abatement facility (aircraft wash rack) was relocated from the center of the south aircraft apron to the west side of the airport on property fronting West Avenue. These improvements were made possible by grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and CalTrans Aeronautics to improve overall aircraft safety, minimize flooding by improving the airport drainage system as well as enhance airport operations.

The Caltrans construction of the Freeway 180 extension westerly from Freeway 99 to Hughes Avenue allows for convenient access to Chandler and provides the opportunity for development for the 70 acres of property on north side of the airport. Contact Chandler Executive's superintendent for more information.
