Exhibit Opens October 4th The Art Of Historic Preservation

FRESNO, CA (October 1 , 2004) Twenty-five years ago the Fresno City Council adopted a Historic Preservation Ordinance, which established the City’s Local Register of Historic Resources and the Historic Preservation Commission. During the month of October the City is sponsoring a series of events intended to thank and acknowledge the “pioneers of preservation” and to draw public attention to Fresno’s history and diverse cultural heritage.

One special component of this celebration will be a month-long exhibition at City Hall, “The Art of Historic Preservation-Regional Perspectives,” October 4th-October 31st. The multi-media exhibition will feature works that examine and interpret historic buildings and cultural landscapes of the Central San Joaquin Valley. Guest curators are Don and Polly Brewer. The exhibition is free during public hours. The Art Hop reception is Thursday, October 7 th, 5-8 pm.

Exhibiting artists include Rollin Pickford, Gus Madrigal, Robin Gay McCline, Elaine Lynn, Marie Bickford, Sally DeLap-John, Pat Hunter, Doug Hansen, Vincent Mendez, Sue McCline, Mary Maughelli, Amy Kasai, Corky Normart, Adam Longatti, Michael Garcia, Betty Markowitz, Cynthia Benno, Khaled Alkotob, Donald Brewer, Jack Christensen, Michael Karibian, Jim Curnyn and Joel Pickford. The exhibition also includes original architectural drawings by Felchlin and Shaw, watercolors by Chinese-American students and Native American baskets, courtesy of the Fresno City and County Historical Society.
